OVERVIEW
San Diego Genealogical Society, a non-profit founded in 1946, promotes the education and interest in family history and genealogy. For this project I created a new and modern design. The new branding solutions were developed in hopes of generating awareness for the society, expanding their audience, and gaining new membership. The new branding targets a mainly middle aged and older audience of the San Diego County. To help achieve the overall goal of the rebrand stationary, banners, and a responsive website layout were developed.
SOLUTION
In designing the logo for San Diego Genealogical Society, I chose to include the imagery of the Spanish tile because there is a strong Spanish heritage in San Diego’s history. The tile motif also represents society’s original location at the Spanish Village in Balboa Park. The logo speaks to the idea of one person branching out, being on the path to discovery, and also coveys the idea of family and growing together. I chose the colors blue, light sea green, and golden orange, to represent the colors related to the region of San Diego. The blue and green colors representing the clear blue skies and the ocean. While the golden orange color represents the sun and sand of the beaches. The clean and modern designs focus on capturing an historical aspect of San Diego while appealing to a wider and more modern audience, so that they may feel connected to the past.
